A uncomplicated (and Brief) Explanation of What Happened at Fukushima

On March 11, 2011, the northeast coast of Japan was shaken by a massive undersea earthquake rated 9.0 on the Richter scale and the resulting tsunami. This was naturally the most intense earthquake in modern history that Japan has faced.

This mega undersea earthquake caused a huge tsunami, which hit the shore some 46 minutes later, causing ample flooding along the coastline. Some towns and market complexes were hit with this natural 'twin' disaster (earthquake plus tsunami), also affecting some nuclear plant sites, namely Tokai, Higashi Dori, Onagawa, Fukushima Dai-ichi and Fukushima Dai-ni. Among the nuclear power plant sites that experienced this natural disaster, the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant site - a nuclear involved of six reactors - was the most severely affected, with more than 14-meter-high tsunami waves lashing this complex.

Nuclear Reactor

Actually, even this massive earthquake did not damage the Fukushima nuclear plant. After all, nuclear plants are built to withstand severe earthquakes - and that is exactly what happened here, too. The nuclear plant did not suffer structural damage because of the earthquake. Nevertheless, the huge earthquake caused loss of electricity from the grid to the plant. At the time of the natural disaster, there were three reactors under doing at the plant site, while three were under maintenance. Immediately, upon loss of off-site power, the reactors were automatically brought to a safe shutdown state, as designed, and core reactor cooling was established with power from onsite emergency diesel generators. But the tsunami that followed soon flooded the plant premises, knocking out the onsite emergency diesel generators, too. It was only after this second blow that the things turned tough.

The decay heat emitted by the fission products is a very small fraction of the reactor full power, but this is still a essential number of heat, which needs to be dissipated away. Efforts were initiated for implementing alternative means to achieve cooling for the reactor cores as well as for spent-fuel warehouse pools. The residual heat in the reactor core during the intervening duration caused elevated temperatures. At higher temperatures, there was a essential build-up of steam pressure. To relax inordinate pressure, some controlled venting was resorted to. The higher temperatures also caused metal-water reaction, important to the formation of hydrogen gas, which exploded in the prevailing heat to cause the damage to the roof of the outer concrete containment structure, while inadequate cooling also lead to a partial melting of the fuel rods. This resulted in some publish of radioactivity, which is more of a diffused nature - but there has not been an "en masse" publish of radioactivity.

The hydrogen-gas explosion was a 'chemical' reaction, and Not a 'nuclear' explosion as misunderstood by many. Also, it should be noted that the fabricate of nuclear reactors is such that they cannot explode like nuclear bombs. In order to understand nuclear power better, it is essential to know the facts.

One more distinguished fact is that even this nuclear plant of old vintage (almost 40-year-old) handled this unprecedented earthquake perfectly well until the huge tsunami arrived. That means if this natural disaster had only been a land-based earthquake, with no together with tsunami, then the onsite emergency power generators would not have suffered and this Fukushima disaster would not have occurred at all!

A 'Call' On The Price of Uranium?

Interviewer:

Before we talk about the potential of uranium shortages and the steep price rise in that energy source, could you explain how you got started with this idea, and what is the doctrine behind Strathmore's acquisition program of uranium properties?

Nuclear Reactor

Dev Randhawa:

Several years ago, Strathmore Minerals started with the idea of acquiring properties "out of the money" at very cheap prices in the confidence that the uranium prices would recover so that our assets would be worth more. No one was paying attention to the commodity we chose: uranium. Strathmore Minerals is basically a call on the price of uranium. That's how we started the company. This strategy is similar to what Lumina Copper (Amex: Lcc) used and what Silver proper used. For example, the chairman of Silver proper Resources (Nasdaq: Ssri) is on our board of directors. Our first step was to buy every pound we could for as cheaply as possible. The second step is to buy asset that we think we can put into production. We are actively seeing for those.

Interviewer:

But uranium has a noteworthy environmental stigma. Why, then, are you enthusiastic about this type of energy source?

Dev Randhawa:

As with most people, when I began investigating uranium, I understanding this was bad stuff. I understanding of Three Mile Island and all things else. The more homework I did on this, the more I realized that nuclear power is clean and safe. That is primarily what uranium is used for now. It should be known that no one ever died at Three Mile Island. No one authentically died at Chernobyl. Yes, habitancy got sick. Compare that to coal or the oil spills in the fossil fuel sector, and the damage it has done to the environment. The problem is no one is championing nuclear energy. Frankly, the "greenies" have done a great job of burying the story. As I did homework, I found out France relies on nuclear power for about 78 to 80 percent of its electricity needs. I realized that somebody did a great job lobbying and built a very unhealthy photo toward uranium, when authentically it's needed. We don't talk about the cost of coal. We don't talk about global warming. But, look at what coal has done. Global warming is a function of fossil fuels. That is why you are seeing a growing unavoidable response to nuclear power. For example, one firm has applied to put a new nuclear reactor into the Us.

Interviewer:

To what do you attribute the recent, steep price rise in uranium?

Dev Randhawa:

Since last year, the price of uranium (U3O8) has climbed back steeply back up. At one point, the price was entertaining up about /pound per month. Uranium's price is more in line with the price of oil as opposed to other commodities. For a long time, we've only produced on the mean about 90 million pounds, when we needed 140 (million pounds). There's been an imbalance for a amount of years. This extra came from foreign sources, or from internal Us inventories. Since the 1980s, we've been using more uranium than we have been producing in the western world. As a result, the extra that we've needed has come from Russia, the Us government or list that utilities had.

Interviewer:

But most investors, let alone the consumer, don't know that uranium's spot price has nearly tripled, since bottoming three years ago. Why is that?

Dev Randhawa:

Uranium only makes up one percent of the cost of running a nuclear reactor. The biggest factor in why uranium prices can go up, even more rapidly than gold, is that uranium is insensitive to its use. Uranium prices can go much higher. In casual conversations with a few Toronto analysts, some believe it can go up to or 0/pound. For example, if the price of gold tomorrow went to 0/ounce, it will sway someone's purchasing decision. The guy might say, "I was going to buy this ring and now it's up 70 percent because the price of gold is up. Maybe I will buy a silver ring instead." The same occurs with other commodities. habitancy may convert their purchasing decision based on a commodity price doubling.

If the price of uranium went to /pound, the mean consumer's electricity bill might go up a few dollars. It is not going to force person to turn off their power. However, if the price of oil doubled tomorrow, many of us would be driving smaller vehicles. It would make a fundamental variation in how we behave. That's not going to happen with the price of uranium. It's like buying pencils for your office. It's not going to convert the way you do business. Even if no nuclear reactors come onboard for the next few years, the ones already there will need the pounds (of uranium). We have a shortage advent up.

Interviewer:

Why do you believe a uranium shortage is in the cards?

Dev Randhawa:

Bottom line is: the nuclear reactors are going to run out of fuel. You have to know that permitting takes a long time in the uranium industry. It's not like seeing a gold asset tomorrow and maybe two years from now you are pouring gold. Typically, the permit takes at least three years out. Because nuclear reactors need it, that's what is causing the price rise. Inquire has kept going higher, but production has fallen off the chart. In this business there are only about half a dozen clubs exploring for uranium. At one time, back in the late 1970s and early 1980s, there were approximately 150 uranium companies. There hasn't been any incommunicable mining since the early 1990s. And that doesn't even comprise a wild card: there has been talk that by 2020, 90 percent of the nuclear reactors advent onboard will be for China.

Interviewer:

And what would reverse uranium's steep price rise?

Dev Randhawa:

The only thing that could kill this shop would be if Russia discovered it had a lot more pounds to sell. Or the Us government, straight through Useg, came up with more pounds. When we first entered the market, eight years ago uranium rose to nearby -/pound. Then it fell. What happened was the U.S. Government sold their uranium to a incommunicable group, who turned nearby and dumped it into the market, from then until last year. In October of last year, the Russians were also dumping uranium onto the shop for their hard cash.

Interviewer:

If change value for uranium comes in the form of exploration costs to find and mine this energy source, what would that cost be?

Dev Randhawa:

Realistically, it would be to /pound. I know some are going to say they can do it for less. By the time you take your exploration costs, improvement costs, and so on, you authentically need to get to for most properties to go into production and still make money. That's why most of what you see in the shop are Isl (in situ leach) projects. On one asset we discovered, it would cost between and / pound to pull it out of the ground. But on others, it might take - 22/pound to pull it out of the ground, after labor costs and sell it on a transmit contract. Canada is producing the most uranium because of the grades. Some say Canada has the lowest cost, but that's not quite accurate. What they mean to say is that the cash costs are the lowest. habitancy forget that it costs up to billion to put some of these into production. Cameco (Nyse: Ccj) was a beast of the government at one time. They were treated that way.

Interviewer:

Earlier you noted that investing in Strathmore Minerals was "basically a call on the price of uranium." Can you explain what you meant by that?

Dev Randhawa:

As uranium prices, the share price of Strathmore Minerals should rise. If you look at Bema (Amex:Bgo), when gold prices were at 5/ounce, what was it worth? As the price of gold moved up, it had value. Has it gone into production yet? No. Silver proper (Nasdaq:Ssri) is similar, but it has had to tell its story because habitancy are so focused on gold. The key for investors is not to go where the crowds go, but to go where you can find value. If you believe that nuclear power is the place to be, and the shortage is real, you have got to own uranium stocks.

Interviewer:

What sets Strathmore Minerals apart from any other exploration clubs in this sector?

Dev Randhawa:

I challenge any junior exploration firm to show an individual who has authentically put an Isl (in situ leach) uranium mine into production, along with Cameco. They just aren't nearby because the business has been dead since the early 1980s. There aren't many experts left in this business. The last standing geologist, which Cogema had, was David Miller, who is now working with Strathmore Minerals, as our head consultant. He is the one who has put the Strathmore strategy together. We've been seeing in southern and eastern Africa. Strathmore is going wherever there are pounds that others have overlooked. Our contentious edge is a database we acquired from Kerr McGee (Nyse: Kmd), which used to be amount one in the uranium industry. Recently, we announced properties in Wyoming that could be satellite Isls. We have enough pounds there that we could throw one of them into production. But we still need higher prices. We are still in the acquisition stage.

Strathmore is going to be very aggressive in picking up properties that we think have pounds in the ground or smaller properties that we think can be Isl-able in the Us. all things we're seeing at in the Us is for Isl. In Canada, we have over 700,000 hectares in the Athabascan region. That's a major asset for us. It's one of the richest areas in the world for uranium. Some of our targets are near existing mines. In Quebec, we've got a large asset that was drilled by Uranerz. Robert Quartermain has authentically been a part of that strategy. That's what he did with Silver Standard, and that's what we're doing here. We are aggressively going after properties. When sophisticated investors meet our team, they see the story we've got and they see our management. You'll see why we were able to millions of dollars in financings. Our strategy has been to buy the has-been properties, the low fruit in all the trees. And that's what we've been doing.

Solar energy companies - How It Stacks Up to Competition

The vigor available from the sun is remarkably of a formidable nature. In truth, the sun provides adequate solar vigor on the Earth in one day to power the whole vigor needs of the world for a whole year. This high potential is what makes solar power one of the best clean alternative vigor sources.

Unfortunately, however, solar vigor companies have not yet been able to push past some of the principal limitations linked to harnessing the sun's vigor for power. While there have been exceptional developments, such as the creation of more productive panel systems and the integration with molten salt technology, solar vigor developers are still struggling to find long term and permanent solutions to the constraints of this alternative source of energy.

Nuclear Power

But population working to bring solar vigor into the mainstream do not only need to enounce with the problems linked to the power source but also with the other alternative sources of vigor that may have advantages over solar power.

One such competitor would be the companies invested in nuclear power. Despite some criticisms concerning its safety, nuclear vigor remains a adored option by many to supply electricity needs. As a matter of fact, there are at gift 439 nuclear power reactors in doing in 31 countries all over the world. Proponents of nuclear vigor enounce that it is a sustainable vigor source that reduces carbon emissions significantly and that the protection issues are now being addressed straight through new technology. With this, it may just give solar vigor companies a run for their money if there continues to be a lull in the amelioration of solar power.

Another contender is geothermal power. These kinds of power plants have already proven to be very marvelous and productive in extracting renewable vigor from the Earth straight through natural processes. Further, the fact that it can be performed on a small scale--providing heat for one residential unit--or on a very large scale and can generate adequate power to fully supply for both makes it a tough competitor in the race to supply a fully industrial and mainstream alternative source of vigor in the near future.

Wind power is also other source of energy, which is roughly always compared to solar power. The use of wind turbines to supply electricity or mechanical vigor is precisely addition rapidly, doubling every year since 2005. Wind vigor companies seem keener to invest on this power source because the construction, maintenance, and transmission costs are relatively cheaper compared to building a solar power plant. Moreover, new technology has allowed for the revamping of the form of wind turbines into something more compact and less of an eye sore; a amelioration that makes the source more captivating to form and invest in.

Solar vigor companies need to keep up with the advancements that other alternative vigor companies have achieved. With such a great potential to be the leading and safest power source of the future, it would be such a pity if no solutions were found to overcome the dilemmas linked to its use.

Japans Nuclear Secrets-Past Reactor Damage Hidden From Government Video Clips. Duration : 3.77 Mins.

Japan's citizens are not satisfied with the information being given to them about the amount of radiation being given off by Japan's nuclear reactors which are on the verge of melting down. It has been revealed in the past that many problems with Japan's nuclear reactors since the 1980's were covered up by the Tokyo Electric Company.

Radioactive Pollution Effects And How To Detox Heavy Metals

Radioactive pollution effects have shown up nearby the globe after the Japanese Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant explosion and persisting uncontrolled disaster. How to detox heavy metals is crucial knowledge for those close to the destruction, and probably for you, in other areas of the world as well. Unfortunately the media reporting of the definite numbers pertaining to radioactive fallout and what they in fact mean is woefully inadequate.

While daily background radiation levels are thought about "safe" in most areas, what does not get explained is that the toxic heavy metals obtain in our bodies by anything way they are ingested: inhalation, or challenging polluted foods and water. The dosages we are getting have been compared to a Cat Scan or an x-ray series - but we don't have these procedures day after day - no curative doctor would allow that.

Nuclear Reactor

How To Detox Heavy Metals - nutrition Is Crucial

After the reactor meltdown in Chernobyl, there were six thousand cases of thyroid cancer reported, among children. This was caused by them drinking contaminated milk. Milk is easy to avoid, since many of the nutrients in milk can be obtained by eating other foods - along with calcium. And speaking of calcium, it is an important supplement to take to avoid metals such as Strontium 90, looking its way to the calcium receptor sites. Thus, bone cancer, a known effect of such toxic exposure, can be prevented.

Foods that bind to metals in your intestines can carry most, if not all, of the radioactive particles out of your body. Even particles that are inhaled will end up in your bowels and be removed, if those particles do not find empty receptor sites in your body, to call home.

Glutathione

Glutathione is in fresh vegetables, fruits and freshly ready meats. It functions in many body cell types, and is a strong antioxidant. It assists your liver in removing contaminants from the theory so your bowels or kidneys can expel them. If you eat a fresh food diet most of the time, your are likely ingesting enough glutathione for health, in general environmental conditions (whatever that is anymore).

The cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, cabbage, and brussel sprouts, furnish a larger amount of this free radical scavenger.

In times of disaster, such as when radioactive fallout is detected, it is a good idea to withhold your body's natural processes of eliminating poisons by taking a "green food" supplement. There are many powdered formulas and capsules or tablets, available roughly everywhere. Go for the certified organic brands, because why be adding more poisons into your body.

Chlorella

Chlorella is the name for a fresh water algae containing high amounts of proteins, chlorophyll, Vitamin C, and carotenoids, the latter two being antioxidants. Chlorella supports the detox functions of your body, and is ordinarily called a blood cleanser.

One Japanese curative study, published in the 2008/09 edition of The Journal Of medicinal Food, found that chlorella reduced body fat levels, cholesterol levels and fasting blood sugar levels in test participants.

Spirulina

Spirulina has a high concentration of vegetable proteins, chlorophyll, Vitamin B12, and a rare necessary fatty acid, Gla. It is in fact found, in organic form, and is inexpensive. It contains iron and other trace minerals and like chlorella, is high in Beta Carotenes, or carotinoids.

Green juices (Wheat grass, Barley grass)

More chlorophyll - green, green, and more green.

Apple pectin with Alginate

Apple pectin, some brands with added alginate from seaweed, is also a heavy metal binder. It is a wholesome fiber that cleanses the intestines, and the alginate helps the body get the heavy metals to the bowel for elimination.

Apple pectin was given to children near Chernobyl, while the salvage phase from that disaster, as part of a medically supervised schedule to detoxify the nuclear particles from their bodies.

Edible clays - Montmorillonite/Bentonite etc.

Edible clays are mined at least twenty plus feet below the soil surface, to ensure no contaminants are in the product. Yes, habitancy eat these. More ordinarily used for body bathing or face masks, the super mineralized clays draw out toxins form the body and skin, to give you the wholesome glowing look and feel. They are normally named after the location where they are mined.

Edible clays can be purchased as powdered or in tablets. They are not expensive. For kids, the powder can be mixed with apple sauce for easy consumption.

Powdered green foods can in fact be blended into fruit juice or protein powder smoothies.

Type of power Sources and the Most useful Source

In the world we are living in, has estimate of problems linked to food, water and economy. Any way the most daunt matter the world is facing today is the "Energy" problem. Power is a source to run the wheel of the country's trade and industry. Commonly Power is referred as the quality of performing some beneficial work. To do beneficial work, the source is Power and Power is extracted from estimate of ways such as:

1. Thermal Energy.
2. Wind Energy.
3. Nuclear Energy.
4. Bio-fuel Energy.
5. Solar Energy.
6. Water Energy.
7. Energy through furnace oil, diesel and gasoline.

Nuclear Weapons

Energy through thermal source is now at decline due to deposits of coal that is ending. Wind Power is the economical source with no pollution. Bio-fuels are vital as they are quick sources but it is not long term. Solar Power is produced from the light but the side effect is that it is being observed that the rays of light reflect back to sky and effect in the destruction of Ozone layer. There are three layers of ozone. Ozone layers are a protective layer that safe from harmful rays of sun. Water stored in dams can be used for Power output through the inter conversion of kinetic and possible energies which in effect run turbines and generators.

Energy through crude oil is also now high-priced procedure as the net cost is too high that even manufactures and domestic consumers cannot afford. The other factors are the reserves of the crude oil being, decreasing. Than what would be the alternative way out? Nuclear Power is the best source to overcoming the scantness of Power problems. Any way safe use of nuclear Power is the most common and vital quiz, arising all over the world. Global warming is big threat to humanity. Thus nuclear Power at present is carefully to be the best source. For the output of nuclear Power some important safety factors must be taken.

The emission of nuclear Power if controlled in perfect manner, the global warming can be reduced significantly. Nuclear Power plants originate 0.01% of carbon dioxide than those of traditional power plants. Fission and fusion are the two main and key steps in the generation of nuclear energy. A nucleus is, trickle by a process of fission in which more than 12 million times Power is produced than that of fossil fuels. In nature fusion reactions take place in sun and stars as fusion is the process of combining the nuclei's.

Nuclear Power is a recycling process but in general depend on the type of reactor used. It is estimated that there are about 510 nuclear reactors all over the world generating energy. Hardly 1.5% of uranium produces energy. Radiation accidents are serious treat in this field. Since 1950, near 20 urgency reports on nuclear output have been submitted. One important thing is that the nuclear Power must be carefully to be safe only for output of Power like electricity and not for weapons. It is close to wind Power in emission. (Toxic material if controlled in well manner.)

The cost of nuclear plant is very high than any other power plants in the world today.

High Sugar Meals Lead to time to come Disease, Not Just Obesity

A new study shows that eating meals with high sugar content causes the publish of damaging substances into the blood. Parents should take special note since many kids are eating high sugar meals and snacks any times a day. This behavior is setting the stage for a lifetime of chronic disease problems.

It's all about the burn

Nuclear Reactor

All foods have a 'glycemic index', which is a quantum of how fast the body burns the food to turn it into fuel. Foods with a lot of uncomplicated sugars burn very quickly while foods high in fiber and involved carbohydrates burn very slowly.

High glycemic foods that burn very quickly cause blood sugar to rise fast. The body reacts to this rise in blood sugar by releasing a large dose of insulin to drive the blood sugar back down. This is the intuit for the 'energy crash' that you feel after eating a high glycemic meal.

Low glycemic foods that burn very gradually cause blood sugar to rise gradually at a controllable rate. This way the body does not need to take drastic measures to keep blood sugar under control. You feel a smoother level of vigor after a low glycemic meal and don't feel the crash a join hours after eating like you do with the high glycemic meal.

The danger of your personal reactor

The vigor spike and crash that you feel after a high glycemic meal is because the body uses blood sugar as the primary source of fuel to make an 'energy molecule' called Atp. However, the production of Atp is somewhat perilous because it also leaks other molecules called 'free radicals', which in turn cause 'oxidative-stress'.

Oxidative stress can be very damaging to your cells and if left unchecked this damage leads to chronic diseases like heart disease, some cancers and even depression. The damage caused accumulates in your body in places like your arteries, heart, lungs and brain and gradually leads to chronic degenerative illness.

Luckily, our bodies have mechanisms to keep free radical damage and oxidative stress under control. We have proteins that precisely capture the free radicals and 'neutralize' them so that they are no longer dangerous. However, to function properly, this theory requires the anti-oxidants you get from fruits and vegetables and multi-vitamin supplements.

It's similar to the dangers involved in using nuclear energy. This is an incredibly efficient vigor source as long as nothing goes wrong. If the nuclear reactor over-heats then problem can happen. The same happens with Atp production. When blood sugar levels are high, Atp production goes into high gear and free radical publish gets out of control. High glycemic meals kick up Atp production.

It has been known for some time that eating high glycemic meals leads to oxidative stress and a new study in the July 2006 issue of The Journal of Clinical nutrition validates that by precisely measuring signs of oxidative stress in the blood after eating both low and high glycemic meals. The study found a strong connection between the glycemic index of the meal and the level of oxidative stress markers in the blood after the meal. High glycemic meals caused high levels of oxidative stress.

Why is this important? It means that high glycemic meals that our kids eat all the time are causing damage that will likely lead to chronic degenerative disease when they are adults. Especially when you join this with the fact that most kids do not get the anti-oxidant safety that they need from eating any portions of fruits and vegetables. It's a double whammy; increased damage and decreased protection.

Damage control

What types of foods are causing this damage? There are many coarse kid's foods that are very high on the glycemic index scale. For starters, high-sugar breakfast cereals, waffles and pancakes with lots of syrup and white toast with jam are very high glycemic foods. It's not just sugary meals that are the problem. Foods made primarily from refined grains and white flour are just as bad. Things like white bread, macaroni and cheese, crackers and hotdog buns.

You can go a long way in protecting your kids current and hereafter condition by switching to whole grain cereals and breads and getting more fruits and vegetables into their diet. This is coarse sense stuff that people have known for a long time.

My hope in writing this description is that comprehension a limited more about the intuit why 'healthy foods' are so significant will help motivate people to act. Just photo in your head limited pick axes circulating straight through your kids blood every time they eat these high glycemic meals and maybe that will help you help them make great choices.

To be realistic, food choices are all about balance. It's not going to kill you to eat poorly every now and then. You just need to understand that it's all about risk. The more you or your kids make poor eating choices the more damage you are allowing to obtain and the higher your risk will be for problems later in life. Act now to instill thoughtful food selection in your kid's behavior.

A proud moment I want to end with a brief story. Last week my 9-year old son came to work with me and we had lunch in our small cafeteria. The menu choices that day were a turkey sandwich, pepperoni pizza, soups and a salad bar. I told him he could have whatever he wanted and I was very happy when he chose the salad bar. It's not that he doesn't like pizza or turkey sandwiches but he made a salutary selection on his own because he precisely likes salad.

A year ago, he hated all 'green'. My wife and I just kept putting a small estimate of vegetables on his evening meal plate and gift salad when we had it. We did not force him to eat this stuff but just kept gift it. At last he started to eat more and more and realized that he likes salad. Now both my kids love a wide variety of steamed vegetables and eat all kinds of fruits on a regular basis.

Kids don't like a lot of foods when they are very young but experts have told us to just keep gift them. At last they will come around. Otherwise, they will grow up eating fast food for the rest of their life and be robbed of good condition in there older years. Please do not rob your kids of this. Give them the many gift you can, their health.

Wind Power - How is Electricity Produced From Wind?

Wind is produced by regions of different temperatures and/or pressures in our atmosphere. On Earth, practically all wind is created by incoming radiation from the sun; this happens when the sun heats a land mass and the heat from the land is absorbed by the surrounding air. When the air reaches a definite climatic characteristic (around mid-morning) it normally begins to rise speedily upwards.

This speedily results in a low-pressure area at ground level and a higher-pressure area above the land. Wind is then created. Air simply moves from high-pressure zones to low-pressure zones, trying to equalize the air pressure. This air movement creates, you guessed it: wind.

Areas of the Earth closer to the sun, such as the equator, become warm quicker than areas supplementary away, such as North America. As air moves over warm areas and rises, cooler air from surrounding areas rushes in to fill the space left by the rising air and again wind is created. This is the general air circulation pattern colse to the globe.

Due to elevation, topography, outside roughness and location, some areas perceive more wind than others. For instance, areas close to large bodies of water, lakes or the oceans especially, have good winds, and thus wind generator potential.

Creating Electricity from Wind power

The air surrounding Earth is made up of many gases, and the wind is essentially spirited air molecules. If you slow down those molecules, as in the case of the wind remarkable the blades of a wind generator, they need to "release" their kinetic energy. In this way, wind turbines capture the kinetic power and in turn convert it into electricity.

Wind generators do this with three basic parts: blades, a shaft and a generator. As wind moves over the turbine blades, it creates high-pressure air below the turbine blades and low-pressure air above them, causing "lift", just like an airplane. Lift makes the blades rotate since each blade is slightly angled.

The blades then turn a shaft that moves magnets in the generator. This movement of the magnets creates electricity. This electricity can be used on-site by a home, business, farm, and it can be stored in batteries.

How to think the amount of Electricity Generated from Wind power

It is clear so far that kinetic power from wind is transformed into electricity by means of a wind turbine and an electric generator. The more kinetic power (wind speed) the more electricity produced.

Wind speed is often measured in miles per hour or kilometers per hour. The amount of power ready in the wind is proportional to the wind speed multiplied by itself 3 times. E.g. If the wind speed doubles, the amount of power in the wind goes up by 2 x 2 x 2 = 8 times.

Typically, wind speeds greater than 7 mph are needed before a wind power principles can begin to originate electricity. The speed at which your wind generator begins to originate power is called the "cut-in" speed. The "cut-out" speed, normally colse to 60 mph, is where the turbine spin stops to safe itself from damage.

The literal, amount of power that can be taken from the wind is involved and depends on such factors as the variability and distribution of wind speed, height of the rotor, diameter of the area swept by the rotor, and density of the air.

To determine how much electricity can be produced by a turbine from the wind, you need to know the wind speed over time and the amount of electricity a turbine generates at different wind speeds. Wind speed is often expressed as the amount of hours per year the wind blows at different speeds.

Hills, ridges and valleys can block the wind or originate undesirable turbulence for a wind generator system. In this case, mounting a wind power principles on a hill and on a tower will increase the amount of wind power available. As a rule of thumb, you want a location that is 15 feet above every obstruction for a radius of 300 yards.

Due to the ground's friction, wind speed increases as you move higher. This is a good thing to know when you are installing a wind generator. For most open spaces, wind speed increases 12% each time the height is doubled. A small increase in wind speed leads to a large increase in power output as the power ready in the wind is equal to the wind speed multiplied by itself times 3 remember.

Ragdoll Physics Games

Another segment of games which is gaining constant popularity are Ragdoll Physics Games. As the name depicts, the games enlisted in this segment are based of principals of physics. However, we don't need to be an specialist of that subject. All we need to do is to get the hands on the computer keyboard and move the mouse.

Some of the best games in this segment are Nuclear Ragdoll, Spartans, Rolling Fall, Ragdoll Spree, Crash Test Launcher, Ricochet Kills (second version), Ragdoll Cannon (third version), Gibbets (second version), Dummy Never Fails, Ragdoll Goalkeeper, Ragdoll Stairfall (second version) etc.

Nuclear Weapons

In this segment, the Nuclear Ragdoll is preponderant among the students. The game is about hitting the target by using cannons in order to shoot the ragdolls. Players find this game identical to the ragdoll cannon sequence of games. Then, the action packed game is the on the net which is known as the Spartans. The game would make us feel like an exact Spartan and in this way; we need to save the ragdoll peasants from the gallows. Our own aspiration could be helping us to make a decision in regards to the lives of the ragdolls. All we need to do is to fire the ropes and rescue the peasants. Then, we have the Rolling Fall. Here, we would be given a weapon like knife and need to use the iron balls in order to kill the zombies. It may need a bit of intelligence to complete all the levels. Then, we can enjoy the Ragdoll Spree game. Inn this game, we need to start on ragdolls to strike balloons and make a note of obstacles in the ragdoll dummy game. No doubt, the game is highly colorful and we would be having fun while playing it. Then we can go for Crash Test Launcher which is someone else kind of a torment game where our main work would be to make as much damage to the dummy crash ragdoll as we can. We can also get the upgrades and take wing to the next level of the game. After this, we could play Ricochet Kills (second version) where we need to shoot at ragdolls with the bouncing darts. We can also use the pistol for shooting at the ragdolls. These ragdoll physics games are highly user amiable and that is the main conjecture behind the popularity of ragdoll games.

Petrochemicals - The Real Weapons of Mass Destruction

Petro refers to oil, the kind that is non-renewable and drilled from the earth, a destructive process in itself. Chemicals are man-made, the stock of atomic and molecular changes. Petrochemicals are chemicals made from oil, natural gas or other fossilized hydrocarbons. When we think of an "oil crisis", how many of us take into observation the titanic amount of petrochemicals we yield and then arrange of every day?

Oil was formed from the remains of animals and plants that lived millions of years ago This is the calculate it is determined "non-renewable". Exploring and drilling for oil disturbs land and ocean habitats After crude oil is removed from the ground, it is sent to a refinery by pipeline, ship or barge. At a refinery, dissimilar parts of the crude oil are separated into usable petroleum products. Crude oil and natural gas are then refined into ethane, propane, and hundreds of other petrochemical products together with fuel for your car. Refining means that the molecular structure is altered so that the oil no longer resembles anyone found in nature. It is now a totally foreign toxic material that can never be changed back into its primary form. It does not bio-degrade or photo-degrade. It cannot be removed from the environment, and it damages all it comes into feel with. The following is a simplistic overview of the process of molecular change:

Nuclear Weapons

Atoms extracted from petrochemicals are formed into molecules known as monomers. There are many dissimilar types of monomers, which are then used to create polymers, large molecules consisting of repeating monomers. The polymers are often made into plastic pellets called nurdles. The nurdles are melted and dyed to form various plastic products. In the case of plastic bags, the repeating units (monomers) are ethylene, or ethane.

There are thousands of petrochemicals in ink, crayons, bubble gum, dishwashing liquids, deodorant, eyeglasses, records, tires, foods, toothpaste, ammonia, heart valves, the list goes on and on. The question is that these chemicals are polluting our environment and we Can"T Get Rid Of Them.

Since the media practically invariably admonishes us that these petrochemical laden products are "healthy", "necessary", and just an everyday part of life that no one should think about or question, what is the problem? What Are They Not Telling You? There is the easy fact that we can Never get rid of them. But there's more. A Lot more.

The construct and incineration of plastics such as polyvinyl chloride (Pvc, generally used in consumer stock packaging and curative devices) is a major source of dioxin. Dioxins are also formed as byproducts of chemical processes animated chlorine, such as the construct of pesticides and the bleaching of paper.

Two of the most serious health effects of dioxin exposure are cancer and endocrine disruption. The petrochemicals that are so pervasive in our environment have especially adverse effects on rapidly growing fetuses and infants. Laboratory animals exposed before birth to one form of dioxin displayed bodily deformities, retarded growth, and changes in physiology. Adverse effects on studying and behavior were also evident.

Many of the most studied plastics and other petroleum products are artificial hormone disruptors known as xenoestrogens. They mimic the effects of estrogen in the body and disrupt general hormone function and balance. "Xenoestrogen," means it's like the female hormone estrogen, except for two things: 1) it's foreign to the body, which is what "xeno" means, and 2) it is way more harmful than our natural estrogen for everyone, male and female. Breast cancers are much more of a risk in women who carry a high burden of xenoestrogens, and both sexes are subject to a huge range of other harmful health effects.

Xenoestrogens come from factories, not food. But they wind up in food because they get into the environment, where toxic organic pollutants like Ddt can persist for more than 50 years. Even pesticides banned in the Us can make their way back to our homes by way of imported fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Xenoestrogens are found in most plastic products, most generally in bottled water. If you've ever wondered why so many women (and often men) nowadays have huge breasts, small girls are developing at younger and younger ages, Pms is rampant, and breast cancer rates are soaring, look at the incredible amounts of petrochemicals we are pouring into our environment every day, and pay attention.

Hormonal compounds disrupt the endocrine system of both animals and humans. Exposure to these molecules, even at low concentrations, can have severely damaging effects on the environment, to organisms, and to humans. The cumulative succeed of these compounds is difficult to estimate. They are an immense danger to the environment and to the human population

Over the last 20 years, breast cancer alone has claimed more American lives than the Vietnam war , the Korean war, World War I, and World War Ii combined. Cancer mortality has risen from 5% of American deaths a hundred years ago to 25% today. Farranging lifetime cancer rates for Americans have risen from one in four habitancy in 1960 to 1 in 2 for men and more than 1 in 3 for women. When so many petroleum products and derivatives are known carcinogens, it's hard not to see a connection.

Every hour Americans use and discard 2.5 million plastic bottles, totaling 22 billion a year. The polycarbonate that these bottles are made from releases a chemical known as bisphenol A, also know as Bpa. A full 90% of government studies found harmful health effects especially to children and expecting moms, and also for male sexuality and reproduction.

Men exposed to pesticides (also made from petrochemicals which disrupt hormones) are far more likely to have defective sperm and low sperm counts than men who are not exposed. This is even true for men who do not work on or live next to farms but are likely exposed to pesticides in drinking water. The male sperm count worldwide has diminished an fabulous 50% in the last 60 years. This is unheard of in the entire history of humankind. What will happen in the next 60 years if we continue on this destructive path?

The most far-reaching effects of hormone disrupters from petrochemicals are birth defects and miscarriages. Someone else succeed is a disruption of beta cell function in the pancreas, which creates a pre-diabetes type health of high blood insulin and insulin resistance.

If breast milk from American women were bottled and sold commercially, it would be banned by the Us Food and Drug supervision because it is contaminated with more than 100 market chemicals, together with dioxins and pesticides. This is still less toxic than baby recipe laced with refined sugar and chemicals stored in a can with a plastic coating.

Petrochemicals tend to get in body fat. The most notorious petrochemical in body fat is polystyrene; studies have shown that virtually all habitancy in the United States carry polystyrene in their body fat. The International division for the explore on Cancer has classified styrene as perhaps carcinogenic to humans. Possibly?

In a study in Mexico, pesticide-exposed children were less proficient at catching a ball, had lower stamina levels, more problem remembering things, and were less able to draw strict drawings of people. This study is one of many documenting the negative effects of petroleum products on the brain. Any way the Farranging effects of exposure to pesticides, plastics, and air pollution remain largely unstudied. Most of these chemicals have never been tested at all.

Every year over 5,500 habitancy in the Us die from asthma.. This rise can be traced to increased environmental pollution, from both household sources, industrial, and motor car pollution. Also implicated are the plastics and other petroleum products used in homes and buildings, such as rug and insulation. The "outgassing" of plastics used in building products creates serious indoor air ability issues which are known to cause increases in asthma and other serious allergic reactions.

Common sense dictates that the human body was not designed to consume petrochemicals. So why are we putting petrochemicals in our foods? Why are we slathering them all over our bodies so they can be absorbed through the skin? Why are we breathing them in and giving them to our high-priced babies to chew on? Why are we pouring petrochemicals by the ton on our crops, yards and water supplies? Why are we mindlessly destroying our environment, our health and our futures?

It is time we became aware of the toxins, endocrine disruptors and carcinogens that we are producing by the ton every day. What do you see for the hereafter of this gorgeous Earth if we continue with this mindless destruction?

Look After Your Planet

It seems that nearly every day we hear something about Global Warming. Australia's drought is now the worst in our history. Intense storm cells lashing parts of South East Queensland, frequent category 4 and 5 tropical storms worldwide, fierce bushfires, melting glaziers, flooding, the list goes on. With the ever increasing threat of global warming, we need to know how we can look after the planet as it is the only one we have. If we don't make changes now, what hope will our young children have for their hereafter on this planet?
Electricity causes 35 per cent of Australia's greenhouse pollution which makes it the biggest particular source of Australia's greenhouse pollution.

Here are a few tips on what we can do to help cool our planet.

Nuclear Weapons

o Switch off the Tv, Vcr, microwave and stereo at the power point instead of leaving them in stand-by power mode.

o Purchase appliances with the top vigor Star rating.

o Run air-conditioning units only when needed and adjust the climatic characteristic operate to 25 degrees.

o Defrost the freezer normally and set the climatic characteristic to -18°C.

o Only use your dishwasher when it is full.

o Consider solar lighting for your porch and garden. Attractive solar orchad lights are now available in cheap kits.

o Dry washing on a clothesline. Your clothes will smell fresh, look best and wear longer.

o Replace light bulbs with compact fluorescents. They supply just as much light and they use 75 per cent less power.

o Install movement sensors in outdoor areas, they supply security while salvage money and energy.

o Turn off your hot water system when you go on holidays.

o Switch off the light when you leave the room.

Greenpeace believes the qoute that we face is that the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) for energy, which is changing the climate. The fossil fuel manufactures is resisting change, funneling millions of dollars into advertising and campaigns to oppose global warming solutions.
What's worse, our governments are listening to them!

Climate turn is caused by human activity; it is the warming of our planet. It's the worst environmental and economic qoute we face today. Most scientists and governments around the world now agree that atmosphere turn will damage or destroy many natural ecosystems and human communities.

Our atmosphere is made up of a balanced blanket of gases. The gas blanket traps in the earth's heat and sustains life on earth. This is known as the greenhouse effect. Market activities generate more greenhouse gases, disrupting the natural balance and increasing greenhouse warming.
It's like we're putting a thicker blanket over the planet, causing it to overheat.

Our greenhouse gas pollution comes from burning coal and gas to make energy. Deforestation also releases large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. After that, changes in our atmosphere may become rapid, unpredictable and irreversible.

Coal provides nearly 90 per cent of Australia's electricity and is also destroying the environment. Coal use also causes principal condition problems. Studies around the world show worrying incidences of asthma, lung diseases and cancers. We must stop our use of coal powered electricity! Clean, renewable vigor is the explication to atmosphere turn and to a best planet.

Just as we rely on coal in Australia, we feed other countries in our region. We export about three times as much coal as we currently use. The Newcastle port has more coal leaving from there every day than our whole country uses.

The world relies on crude oil and it's running out!
The world's transportation and Market industries rely heavily on oil. Unfortunately, in modern years, we've been appealing much more oil than we've been discovering. Some scientists are suggesting that the Earth may have reached its peak oil.

"Peak oil" is the point at which we consume more petroleum per year than we produce, and when peak oil happens worldwide, it will no longer be worth the time or money it takes to find new oil reserves. Some citizen believe there will be a war as the supervene of a battle to gain operate over the world's last oil reserves. Saudi Arabia possesses both the world's largest oil reserves and produces the largest whole of the world's oil. The Middle East has about 50 per cent of the known remaining world oil reserves.

The truth is, peak oil could influence you more than you realize. The mean Australian consumes six and a half litres of oil every day, three quarters of that is being used for transportation.
Australia passed peak oil as a nation in 2000, and now imports 30% of all its oil. By 2010, it's estimated that that outline will be closer to 50%.

It's hard to say exactly what will happen once peak oil hits across the globe. Some scientists say that it will be the end of civilization as we know it, while others claim there will certainly be no inequity at all due to modern advances in vigor technology.

No one can say exactly when the world's peak oil will occur, estimates say sometime around 2015. The United States vigor facts management believes the world supply of oil shale to be 2.6 trillion barrels of usable oil--that's roughly 66 years worth of fuel at current consumption rates.

The qoute is, by relying on oil shale and other such sources of petroleum, we're merely delaying the problem. If we don't explore other types of energy, we'll have the same qoute we do now in half a century. Although we can stretch our supply for a while longer, we will at last run out of oil.

There are currently efforts underway to cut or eliminate oil consumption. Auto associates are developing hybrid cars that run partly off rechargeable batteries, and a new fuel called "biodiesel"
Individual actions make a difference, too. Try cutting down on petrol consumption by using communal transportation or carpooling with friends and coworkers. When possible, ride a bike or walk to your destination--you'll be holding the planet and the cheaper wholesome and also yourself too!

Nuclear Australia

Australia is the owner of the world's largest uranium reserves. Most of the vigor in Australia is supplied by burning coal or petrol. Currently, 78 per cent of Australia's water is boiled by coal. Coal, is a fossil fuel and creates greenhouse emissions. Nuclear vigor is a way to boil water without producing greenhouse emissions.

All of the uranium mined in Australia is exported. Every country that buys uranium from Australia must sign an business agreement that the uranium will be used only for peaceful purposes (like generating energy).

Why aren't we using our own uranium?

A great deliberate upon has recently opened up in Parliament on Australia's nuclear policy. John Howard has recommend an inquiry into Australia's vigor uses, including the proposal of going nuclear.
Those who are for a nuclear Australia argue that the introduction of nuclear vigor is cleaner. It could perhaps cut greenhouse gas emissions and help the environment. Nuclear vigor could also supply a cheaper explication to rising petrol prices and could generate jobs for thousands of people.

Scientists say that only five per cent of emissions would be cut by 2050, which is well below the target whole that has been set to cut atmosphere change. The opposition doesn't forget the nuclear disaster of the Chernobyl power plant meltdown in 1986. They argue that such a disaster could happen again. Others worry that if Australia goes nuclear, our uranium supply could run out in less than 60 years.
Personally I am against the idea of Nuclear Power in Australia. It has some benefits but the allinclusive risk of a nuclear disaster and the possibility of it falling into the wrong hands to make nuclear weapons are too much of a risk. There must be a best and safer solution.

The Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster on April 25th -26th 1986 is the world's worst nuclear power accident. It occurred at Chernobyl in the old Ussr now know as Ukraine. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was settled 80 miles north of Kiev. It had 4 reactors and whilst testing reactor whole 4 numerous security procedures were disregarded. At 1:23am a chain reaction in the reactor became out of operate creating explosions and a fireball which blew off the reactor's heavy steel and concrete lid.

The Chernobyl urgency killed more than 30 citizen immediately, and as a supervene of the high radiation levels in the surrounding 20-mile radius, 135,000 citizen had to be evacuated.

Health Effects from the Chernobyl Disaster-

The five years (1981-1986) before the accident, the mean thyroid cancer rate in young children aged in the middle of birth and 15 years old was 4-6 incidents per million. The incidents rose from 4-6 per million to 45 incidents per million in the middle of 1986 and 1997.

There have also been reports of increases of definite cancers in unavoidable populations living in contaminated areas and among those who helped with the cleanup of the accident.

30 lives were lost during the urgency or within a few months after it. Figures from the Ukraine Radiological create propose that over 2,500 deaths were caused by the Chernobyl disaster.

Psychological Consequences-

There have been principal increases in psychological condition disorders and incidence such as:

o Anxiety

o Depression

o Helplessness and despair important to, communal seclusion and loss of hope for the future.

o Other disorders attributable to mental stress

The stress and trauma of the citizen complicated during the evacuation and their concerns about their children's condition came from the supervene of the lack of communal facts available after the accident. There is much understandable skepticism over official statements as citizen were not told the truth until any years after the accident.

Following the urgency 116,000 citizen had to be evacuated and in the middle of 1990 and 1995 an added 210,000 citizen were resettled. A new town was named for the personnel of the Chernobyl power plant.
Villages had to be decontaminated and major work had to be carried out on infrastructure of water and gas. The closure of Reactor 4 and the "freeze" on construction of new reactors reduced the availability of electricity supplies.

Demographic indications in 'contaminated' areas propose that these areas are experiencing a decline in birth rate. The work force has moved to uncontaminated areas resulting in a shortage of labour and pro staff.

The affected areas suffered major disruption to normal life and economic action in agriculture and forestry production.

After the Chernobyl urgency radioactive material was widely dispersed and was measured over a vast area. The effects have been felt over the whole of the northern hemisphere.
In some local ecosystems within a 10 km radius of the reactor lethal doses were reached particularly with trees and small mammals. However in 1989 the natural environment of these ecosystems began to recover but there is still the possibility of long term genetic effects.

With today's ongoing risk of terrorist attacks worldwide and the growing threat of an attack in Australia, it seems going nuclear could be a disaster waiting to happen. Nuclear power does have its advantages but in an unstable world as we live in today I'm not sure it is a good idea. However we need to do something now to help fight the growing concerns of global warming and atmosphere change. Our children deserve the proprietary for us to find a explication so they can live in garage and safe environment in the future.

Radiation Exposure and Hypothyroidism

Physical Effects of Radiation Exposure from Iodine 131

Some of the main effects of internal radiation exposure with or without hypothyroidism to Iodine 131 consist of autoimmune thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, nodules and neoplasia. Citizen who are exposed to the release of Iodine 131 consist of from the output of nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants. Any way Citizen who fight from the in-flight ignition of atomic bombs do have a higher risk factor for developing thyroid disease or thyroid cancer or even both. Specifically, Citizen who are exposed to radiations during their childhood receive higher medication cares which in most of the cases are cyclical over time. These Citizen are more helpless than those Citizen who are exposed during their adulthood.

Nuclear Weapons

Radiation exposure can cause many health associated effects when either adequate cells in the body are killed immediately adequate to disturb the function of the tissues or damaging cells which are entirely repaired Any way they are still viable. Iodine 131 radiation exposure may sway body cells in the thyroid glands which can lead to thyroiditis or hypothyroidism. It may even cause malignant or benign thyroid nodules or tumors. The thyroid glands have one of the low cell proliferation rates of the tissues in the body and its reviving capacity is all the time low.

Some of the other effects of radiation exposure consist of greater risks for thyroid neoplasm which remains higher for at least 40 years even after the exposure. Thyroid exposure to both external and internal radiation may cause an immune response. An alteration in the thyroid autoimmunity after the Iodine 131 therapy has been recognized to the release and output of autoantigents as the outcome of radiation alterations.

Reason to value the effect of radiation exposure

It is foremost to value the extended low dose rate radiation exposure effects on the thyroid glands of those staying in the steel structure which are 60 Co-contaminated. Some of the methods and materials to reason the effect of radiation exposure consist of anti-thyroid microsomal antibodies, determination of thyroid function, ultra-sonography and corporal test of the thyroids. The ultrasound guided target cytology was performed on several Citizen for thyroid nodules. This test subjects were stratified by the age at the study (on the Citizen aged 15 years and above), exposure dose to the body and by sex. The data on dose response on the occurrence of number of thyroid diseases was precisely evaluated by the discrete logistic regression evaluations.

Consequences and Conclusions

The occurrence of easy goiters was associated to the radiation exposure with the dose response connection for the females above 15 years and males of all the ages. There was a biological incline of occurrence of thyroid cyst with the enhancement in the exposure doses for females of all the ages. However, the occurrence of increased serum tri-iodothyronine levels has showed dose response connections for the males above the age of 15. An foremost boost in the thyroid abnormalities with the exposure dose was practical for both females of 15 years and males of all the ages.

Neocon Bolton Renews Call for Israel to Bomb Iran Kurt Nimmo www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv August 17, 2010 nstead of a business deal, Bolton characterizes the Russian effort as an excuse to "stick a thumb in America's eye." Last Friday the former interim UN ambassador during the Bush administration went on Fox News and warned that if Israel did not conduct a bombing raid against Iran's nuclear energy program within a few days, the window of opportunity would be lost. Bolton made his comment following a report last week that Russia will begin loading nuclear fuel at Iran's Bushehr reactor on July 21. "Once that uranium, once those fuel rods are very close to the reactor, certainly once they're in the reactor, attacking it means a release of radiation, no question about it," the AFP reports Bolton as saying today. "So if Israel is going to do anything against Bushehr it has to move in the next eight days." On August 15, Infowars.com reported on comments made by Sergei Novikov, a spokesman for Rosatom, the Russian Energy State Nuclear Corp. "The fuel will be loaded on Aug 21. This is the start of the physical launch" of the reactor, he said. "From that moment the Bushehr plant will be officially considered a nuclear-energy installation." Russia is currently operating under a billion contract with Iran and has worked for over a decade on the reactor. Instead of a business deal, Bolton characterizes the Russian effort as an excuse to "stick a thumb in America's eye ...

Autograph Collecting - Albert Einstein, Can I Have Your E = Mc Squared?

Perhaps the most preeminent equation is Albert Einstein's "E=mc2. Although most of us have seen it, most have no idea of what it indeed means. Well relax, we won't discuss part physics here. We will any way justify many letters sent by the "Energy Committee of Atomic Scientists" that comprise the facsimile signature of Einstein. Albert Einstein and a team of incredibly talented scientists and physicists created the theories, equations and technology that became the atomic bomb. The controversy in the news today about the use of that weapon is not new. At the conclusion of World War Ii, and even earlier many experts shared great concern about the power of nuclear energy harnessed into a bomb.

Many post war letters were mailed by the "Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists" to raise money to educate the public about atomic energy. The call was to raise ,000,000.00. The letter begins; "...Through the release of atomic energy, our generation has brought into the world the most revolutionary force since prehistoric man's discovery of fire. This basic power of the universe cannot be fitted into the outmoded opinion of narrow nationalism..." This letter dated January 22, 1947 concludes by requesting a donation to the cause. Each letter carries the signature of Albert Einstein. The signature was printed, not indeed signed. An selfsame signature appears on the follow-up letter (my example is dated "May 20, 1947") which thanks a supporter for a contribution and requests continued support.

Nuclear Weapons

The easiest way to identify this non-genuine signature is the "t" dotting of the first "i" in Einstein. The signature is printed in blue ink and has the characteristics of uniform ink intensity.

One of my popular examples is one of Einstein's bank checks. It comes with an moving story that provides us with comprehension on the man's opinion process. The item was obtained by a telephone operator at the center For industrialized Studies in Princeton, where Einstein worked. One morning she asked Einstein for his signature. "Dr. Einstein, could I have your autograph for my grandson?" she queried. His response surprised her. "I'll bring it tomorrow!" he quipped, as he hurried past her. Bring it? Why not just scribble it on a slip of paper? The next day he left the check for her. This superb example is written to the National Academy of Sciences. That makes it quite a nice association piece. Where is it now? The assembler that owns it told me it has entered the "black hole" of the autograph collecting world (that means he's keeping it forever). Quite proper for Einstein's signature don't you think?

Fundamentals of Nuclear energy As an Alternate Source of energy

When we think of nuclear energy, the first thing that comes to mind is the atom bomb and the heavy destructive power it contains. But is that enough knowledge about nuclear energy? How does an atom originate energy? When an atom is split, it releases two types of energies: heat and light. Nuclear power plants carries out the fission of atoms in a controlled environment, which prevents any untoward explosion like atomic or hydrogen bombs.

First of all, you need to know that atomic power plants can never explode like a nuclear bomb as there are enough safety precautions taken for atomic fissions to happen. Moreover the catalyst used for atomic fission is pure Plutonium and the process does not even take place inside a power plant. Even chances of a 'meltdown' are pretty low, though some stray accidents have happened in the past. But if you take into consideration that there are over 430 nuclear reactors operating in 33 nations across the world since the 1950s, such accidents are nothing else but rare. Also the root cause of such accidents has been attributed to outdated materials, which ideally should have been maintained properly or replaced.

Nuclear Reactor

It can be said with some conviction that if nuclear power does gain popularity in the field of alternate sources of energy, obviously, the power plants would also be usually updated and maintained. There are presently 6 states in America engaged in producing more than half of all their electricity demands using nuclear power - and there are no tragic stories reported by media on these nuclear power plants.

Hydro-Electric Power Makes Sense; What About the Future?

Recently a very favorite Online Think Tank was asked to tell a totally new technology, which we create energy from ocean waves and turn it into electricity. The fabricate thought is totally revolutionary and the company's founder explained to the think tank how it all worked. Fieldstone energy has any designs, which will capture ocean wave energy onshore or offshore.

In fact there are any distinct kinds of designs by many distinct entrepreneurs in varied countries nearby the world. Most of the designs are truly in genius and they are all competing for efficiency in energy creation. Environmentalists and nations alike are implicated with the whole of Co2 in our atmosphere and a good bit on this Co2 comes from power plants. By harvesting the oceans wave energy to power up civilizations many countries will be living up to their alternative renewable energy initiatives.

Nuclear Power

The Fieldstone energy Ocean Wave Generation fabricate is quite unique and assuredly makes one’s mind spin; [http://www.fieldstoneenergy.com/technology.htm]

Of procedure an Online Think Tank says why stop there and have thought about other concepts using Hydro-Electric energy Themes as well. For instance using a snake vertical suction to put water back behind a dam to use over and over again. Mulholland did this to bring water over the mountains into the growing La Basin.

One Online Think Tank member even sketched a Dual Blimp Hull fabricate with an hour-glass in between, which would use water hydro to spin a propeller and the blimp would continually spiral along. It would never need fuel, fly forever and silently?

Anyway, just sharing these secret discussions with you, as I was truly blown away by American Ingenuity this week in reviewing all these projects. I assuredly hope this article will propel thought in 2007.

Hydro-Electric Power Makes Sense; What About the Future?

Is the Navajo Nation President Being a Hypocrite about Uranium Mining

According to the U.S. Vigor information Administration, about 80 percent of the electricity in New Mexico is generated each year by burning coal. The irony is that the dominant anti-nuclear group in New Mexico, Southwest study and information center (Sric), has shown no evidence of denouncing coal consumption. Agreeing to Don Hancock, an Sric Administrator who directs the non-profit organization's Nuclear Waste safety Program, the group's "spiritual mentor" is John W. Gofman. The old nuclear physicist is an aging, eccentric author who was discredited by the Atomic Vigor Commission and was branded by the nuclear power manufactures as "beyond the pale of reasonable communication." As a kind gesture, Hancock gave us a copy of a Gofman "cartoon book," whose theme revolves nearby Thoreau's essay, "Civil Disobedience." someone else cosmic ally is Amory B. Lovins of the Rocky Mountain Institute, a beloved Don Hancock icon.

While Gofman championed solar Vigor in his hey day, Lovins presently espouses hydrogen as a primary clarification for transportation, wind, and increasing efficiency straight through natural gas. However, neither wind power nor solar Vigor is a relevant Vigor source in New Mexico. Hydroelectricity supplies about 0.7 percent of New Mexico's electricity generation. Despite the hoopla and hyperbole, all of other renewable Vigor sources combined contribute New Mexico with a mere 0.6 percent of its electricity. Coal is, in a very big way, the fantastic infer why New Mexicans are not living in darkness and without heat or air conditioning.

Nuclear Reactor

According to the Harvard School of collective Health, about 2400 population die every year from the air pollution caused from each million tons of sulfur dioxide emitted. In 1999, it is estimated that over 1.05 billion tons were produced, releasing 11.856 million tons of sulfur oxides and more than 5 million tons of nitrous oxides. Having personally inspected the first floor library of Sric headquarters, no anti-coal mining literature was discovered. There appears to be scant fund-raising interest from these environmental activists to close down New Mexico's large coal mines. In fact, more U.S. Coal mining deaths were reported in 2005 than deaths from uranium mining (zero). StockInterview.com heard no worries at Sric over the blackening of coal miner's lungs, but the staff appeared very implicated over the radon gas emitted from uranium mining. Uranium mining in New Mexico came to a standstill about twenty years ago. Coal mining continues as it has for seven decades.

Don't expect the coal mines of New Mexico to be ended any time soon, though. No matter how deadly coal mines are, coal production is irreplaceable at this time. Agreeing to the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, tax revenues from coal in 2001 exceeded million. Nearly one-half of the state's Vigor needs are met straight through coal-generated power. The coal manufactures employed 1,800 population in 2001. New Mexico is the country's leader for methane gas production from coal beds. Coal is the state's third largest source of revenues.

An Epa Toxic issue inventory article published in 2000 reported that two power plants and their coal mines in New Mexico's San Juan County released 13 million pounds of chemical toxins into the Four Corner's area (New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado). It was also reported that 6.5 million tons of solid waste was buried by the two San Juan County power plants on their sites or at nearby coal mines. Those airborne toxins were miniscule compared to over 300 million pounds of other emissions, such as particulates and nitrogen dioxide released into the air, and which can trip for hundreds of miles. Reports confirm those power plants were among the worst polluters in the United States. The eighth worst emitter was Giant Refining, about 17 miles from Gallup, New Mexico, which emitted 608,000 pounds Agreeing to the Epa report. Any visitor to the Gallup area can facilely smell the stench circulating in the air.

Does Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr Have duplicate Standards?

Why haven't the Navajo banned coal mining on the reservation as they have uranium mining? Agreeing to Anna Frazier, a Navajo affiliated with a local environmental group, "Our Navajo Nation is precisely not going to do that. They would rather have the revenues arrival in from the coal clubs and the power plants." Agreeing to a news article published in Indian Country newspaper, "The Navajo Nation receives the bulk of its annual 0 million operating expenses from royalties, leases and taxes from its coal, oil and gas. These revenues contribute operational expenses for the tribal government, including the salaries of the 88-member Navajo Nation Council, the tribe's annual budgets show."

For more than 35 years, Peabody Vigor has operated gigantic mines on Navajo territory. The closure of one such coal mine, the Black Mesa, sent the Navajos rushing for their Maalox. Ironically, it was environmental activists that forced Southern California Edison to close their Mojave Generating center nearly 300 miles away in Laughlin, Nevada. The utility was given a choice: cough up billion to stop polluting the Grand Canyon or shut it down. It had been called "one of the dirtiest coal plants in the West," and air emissions from that plant reportedly polluted half a dozen other national parks in the Southwest. But, that coal mine provided about 15 percent of the Navajo's annual budget. George Hardeen, the Navajo president's media voice, complained about the mine conclusion last October, "This is going to have a terrible succeed on this entire region because the Navajo cheaper is so fragile."

John Dougherty complained about the Navajo Nation's tactics in the Phoenix New Times newspaper in March 2005, observing, "Environmental groups have long exploited the Native American tradition of sacred places to fight their battles to sustain wilderness areas...It's always the soulful Native American who steps transmit as the high clergyman of sacred geography. In the background lurks the environmentalist adequate with charts and data on tree-trunk diameters and spotted-owl nesting sites." Dougherty concluded, "The cries of environmental destruction and cultural murder from Navajo and Hopi leaders ring hollow."

What are not going to be ringing at all will be the cash registers at Albertsons supermarket in Bullhead City, near Laughlin (Nevada), which ended down this week. That's because the Mojave power center ended as advertised because of the dirty Black Mesa coal. Mike Conner, president of the Bullhead Area room of Commerce, said, "The community will be devastated." across the river in Laughlin, Buddy Borden of the University of Nevada at Reno told a group of community leaders the area "will take an practically million hit" in lost power plant payrolls. The factory will lay off 375 employees, who had an median annual wage of ,000. Like dominoes falling, jobs in Nevada, Arizona and in the Navajo Nation were lost.

Recently, Navajo president Joe Shirley Jr. Thought about replacing funds shortfalls with casinos, four in Nevada and two in New Mexico. Last March, Senator John McCain forecast the Navajo casinos would fail because of their remote locations. Shirley quipped back in the Arizona Republic newspaper, "I beg to differ with him." One coal mine that won't be on the Navajo reservation is the first to receive an operating permit in six years. Peabody Vigor announced a coal mine on Lee Ranch, one of New Mexico's largest landowners. It is projected to produce 102 million tons of coal over the next thirty years.

For the time being, the Navajos hope to solve their economic quagmire by just putting up more casinos across a New Mexico landscape, already replete with "truck stop casinos." One can soon get bored guessing when the next casino will surface while driving across whether Interstate 40 or I-25, the state's main arteries. First you see a sign announcing which tribal land you are entering, then the ubiquitous billboard describing which has-been musical act is "now appearing," and then finally the mixture truck stop, casino, restaurant(s) and allowance smoke shop whizzes by. One aging Navajo told us, "It's bad for the families, and it sets a bad example for the younger ones."

On Navajo reservation land and just in New Mexico alone, Joe Shirley Jr may operate more than 75 million pounds of uranium, with a gross value presently exceeding .7 billion. Some say the estimate could run much higher, into the hundreds of millions of pounds. Don't expect Mr. Shirley to over turn his ban on uranium any time soon. Dr. Fred Begay, a Navajo and nuclear physicist at Los Alamos, whose vocation has been featured on Bbc Television and in the pages of National Geographic and famed by the New York Academy of Science, explained the problem, "The Navajo don't get it. They think that they'll have miners. They have illiteracy on mining and uranium." Dr. Begay clarified that the Navajo have failed to differentiate in the middle of accepted uranium mining and Isl operations, which he considers safe, "They think that miners are going in there and digging it out."

Perhaps the illiteracy about mining extends to geochemistry. Coal is big money in New Mexico, and a little-known fact about the mixture of coal may enlighten more than just environmentalists. old Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers J. P. McBride, R. E. Moore, J. P. Witherspoon, and R. E. Blanco reported in Science magazine (Dec 8, 1978: "Radiological Impact of Airborne Effluents of Coal and Nuclear Plants") the shocking conclusion that "Americans living near coal-fired power plants are exposed to higher radiation doses than those living near nuclear power plants that meet government regulations."

In an article entitled "Coal Combusion: Nuclear resource or Danger," researcher Alex Gabbard, explained, "Coal is one of the most impure of fuels. Its impurities range from trace quantities of many metals, including uranium and thorium, to much larger quantities of aluminum and iron to still larger quantities of impurities such as sulfur. Products of coal combustion contain the oxides of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur; carcinogenic and mutagenic substances; and recoverable minerals of industrial value, including nuclear fuels simply occurring in coal."

Did you know that the estimate of radioactive thorium contained in coal is about 2.5 times greater than the estimate of uranium? For a large estimate of coal samples, Agreeing to Environmental safety group figures released in 1984, median values of uranium and thorium article have been Thought about to be 1.3 ppm and 3.2 ppm, respectively. Uranium and thorium are In coal.

For the year 1982, assuming coal contains those same uranium and thorium concentrations, each typical plant released 5.2 tons of uranium (containing 74 pounds of uranium-235) and 12.8 tons of thorium that year. Total U.S. Releases in 1982 (from 154 typical plants) amounted to 801 tons of uranium (containing 11,371 pounds of uranium-235) and 1971 tons of thorium. These figures inventory for only 74% of releases from combustion of coal from all sources. Releases in 1982 from worldwide combustion of 2800 million tons of coal totaled 3640 tons of uranium (containing 51,700 pounds of uranium-235) and 8960 tons of thorium. Coal consumption has jumped dramatically since 1982 - by more than double!

Gabbard calculated the net impact of the issue of uranium and thorium from coal burning by the year 2040:
Based on the staggering combustion of 2516 million tons of coal in the United States and 12,580 million tons worldwide while the year 2040, cumulative releases for the 100 years of coal combustion following 1937 are staggering to be:

U.S. issue (from combustion of 111,716 million tons):

Uranium: 145,230 tons (containing 1031 tons of uranium-235)

Thorium: 357,491 tons

Worldwide issue (from combustion of 637,409 million tons):

Uranium: 828,632 tons (containing 5883 tons of uranium-235)

Thorium: 2,039,709 tons

The population efficient dose equivalent from coal plants is 100 times that from nuclear plants. Agreeing to the National Council on Radiation safety and Measurements (Ncrp), the median radioactivity per short ton of coal is 17,100 millicuries/4,000,000 tons, or 0.00427 millicuries/ton. This outline can be used to infer the median staggering radioactivity issue from coal combustion. For 1982 the total issue of radioactivity from 154 typical coal plants in the United States was, therefore, 2,630,230 millicuries.

Gabbard explained further: "Thus, by combining U.S. Coal combustion from 1937 (440 million tons) straight through 1987 (661 million tons) with an estimated total in the year 2040 (2516 million tons), the total staggering U.S. Radioactivity issue to the environment by 2040 can be determined. That total comes from the staggering combustion of 111,716 million tons of coal with the issue of 477,027,320 millicuries in the United States. Global releases of radioactivity from the staggering combustion of 637,409 million tons of coal would be 2,721,736,430 millicuries."

Uranium and the entire nuclear fuel cycle are blamed for a host of ills by the anti-nuclear crowd, but little is reported on the branch of radioactivity released from burning coal. Gabbard writes, "Large quantities of uranium and thorium and other radioactive species in coal ash are not being treated as radioactive waste. These products emit low-level radiation, but because of regulatory differences, coal-fired power plants are allowed to issue quantities of radioactive material that would provoke substantial collective outcry if such amounts were released from nuclear facilities. Nuclear waste products from coal combustion are allowed to be dispersed throughout the biosphere in an unregulated manner. Collected nuclear wastes that get on galvanic utility sites are not protected from weathering, thus exposing population to increasing quantities of radioactive isotopes straight through air and water movement and the food chain."

While environmental groups hold fund raisers to stop uranium mining, protest the nuclear fuel cycle, and lobby to have vested interest groups, such as the Navajo Nation, ban uranium mining on the reservation, little data or statistics can be found about the daily tragedies found straight through coal production. There is no vocal outcry from Southwest study and information center about coal mining, let alone the radioactive dangers found in releasing toxic coal fumes into the atmosphere.

It was a difficult task to locate the data illustrating, as Mr. Gabbard has done, that the radioactivity In coal, from thorium and uranium, is far more deadly than the world's fleet of nuclear reactors. Will Joe Shirley, Jr. Now ban coal mining on the Navajo reservation lands? After all, a greater estimate of radioactivity is released among the Navajo from coal consumption than uranium mining ever would have achieved. Or will Mr. Shirley let that slide because his funds committee wouldn't stand for it?
