Radiation Explained Alpha Beta Gamma 1960s Mr Wizard

Radiation Explained Alpha Beta Gamma 1960s Mr Wizard Tube. Duration : 4.13 Mins.

This is clipped from the early 1960s film, Everyday Radioactivity, produced by Mr. Wizard, Don Herbert, showman-science teacher famous for his Watch Mr. Wizard programs, which ran on NBC from 1951 to 1965. ) . A wonderful resource for a look at the history of radiation is the Health Physics Museum at www.orau.org . The museum is operated by the Oak Ridge Associated Universities, offers a wide range of technical and regulatory information. The museum has a very large inventory of instruments and radiation related items, including descriptions and photographs, that date back to the Manhattan Project. However, it also offers an extensive Health Physics Resources page with information and links to answer the full range of radiation related questions. Another good source of information on radiation is the website (and downloadable book) Radiation, People and the Environment (www.iaea.org ) provides a comprehensive look at ionizing radiation. Produced by the IAEA in close co-operation with the UK National Radiological Protection Board, this provides a broad overview on the subject of ionizing radiation, its effects and uses, as well as the measures in place to ensure it can be used safely. The entire film, Everyday Radioactivity, is available at the Internet Archives.

transported Solar Power Not Just For Environmentalists

While camping in remote areas or working in building where electric power is at a premium, having your own transportable solar power unit to plug into can provide some of the power needed for comfort or convenience. Most citizen think solar power as a means of alternative power generation that will ultimately replace coal-fired generating plants but the sun plays a crucial role in their capability to control adequately.

The principles of solar power is well tested and has been proven as a viable choice, and with new technology in solar panels and batteries with a longer life, transportable solar power units are production an impact on those needing some power while on the go. The units still include a battery that hoards power until it is needed, and many of the newer transportable solar power units can be expensed in discrete ways. A couple of units give the user the choice of charging the battery straight through its solar panel, plugging it into current in the home or connecting it to the car.

Nuclear Power

With this flexibility, a transportable solar power unit can be useful in a collection of applications. The size of the unit and what appliances can be operated by it will depend on the individual choice of transportable solar power units.

Small Units Carried By Hand

The majority of the weight for a transportable solar power unit is in the battery. Typically, solar power is used to fee batteries, 12-volt direct current, which is then passed straight through a converter into which appliances requiring 120-volt alternating current are connected. With many transportable devices designed to control on 12-volt direct current, they can also be operated from the same unit.

Finding a transportable solar power units to meet definite needs is getting easier every day. Finding to buy a definite unit, it should have at least two outlets for Ac power and one more in which to plug a 12-volt power plug...the type resembling a cigarette lighter in cars. How it is expensed should be someone else top concern.

Having a transportable solar power unit that can be expensed at home before leaving on a camping trip will make sure it can be used from day one. Once in the wilderness, when the battery begins to run low, it can be linked to a foldable solar cell panel and expensed for added use. While appliances such as small refrigerators and heaters can be used, they will drain the power quickly.

another Nuclear Arms Race, Perpetrated By The Bush administration

The recently signed deal on Nuclear assistance between India and Usa is a huge failure of President Bush to tackle the real nuclear threats that we face. Bush has done what his all predecessors even his own father refused to do - break the Us and international law to aid India's nuclear-weapons program. The deal was cooked by a handful of senior officials and never reviewed by the departments of State, Defense or vigor before it was announced. Congress was never consulted. This appears to be an additional one give away to a foreign government and corporate interest of personal friends of President Bush and Vice President Cheney at the price of Us national-security interests. Fundamental the Bush administration's strategic embrace of India is the "democratic peace theory"--the installation that democracies don't go to war with each other. In fact, the nation with by far the most forces interventions since World War Ii has been a liberal democracy--the United States. The only hope is now to see that the Us Congress would be able to block the deal. Given the bilateral nature of the deal, Pakistan could have a similar arrangement with China and we can see an additional one Nuclear Arms race in subcontinent.

Technology, Internet and the improvement of science has made the world a best and a smaller place today. The pace of evolving technology has made us more interconnected and interdependent for needs of commerce, trade and eventually for our survival. The last 2 decades have seen unprecedented improvement and the next few will bring in something we cannot foresee today. In this world of constructive development, it is very important and relevant that our governments make decisions that are more constructive and do well not only to their own citizens but to all mankind. Human race has been seem to be most co-operative and communicative in face of earth shattering disasters and mishaps, which gives rise to more hope. In view of these facts, it is very important that all governments and leaders listen to the coarse voices of their people, instead to taking partial and myopic steps especially in regard to issues as important as nuclear weapons and wars.

Nuclear Weapons

On Nuclear Weapons, all mankind, as one, has taken a decision to eradicate them. So on what grounds do our governments can conclude against the will of their people? The decision by President Bush to get into a treaty with Indian government will be laying the ground work for an additional one arms race as a hazardous affair as far as the future of the world is concerned. The Non-Proliferation Treaty (Npt) signatories and Us Congress will need to react to this quickly and effectively remembering their obligations to the future generation and to the whole world society to decommission all nuclear weapons and make the world a safer place. The starting of an additional one nuclear arms race, perpetrated by the Bush supervision will only increase the risk of proliferation in the near future, which will leave an endangered heritage to our children and grandchildren, if we are not already doing so, by appending principal money towards the improvement of weapons of mass destruction instead of elevating the downtrodden. The responsibility of any and all our governments is not little only to their citizens, but to humanity as a whole.

American people and Us Congress needs to do a little soul searching in light of President Bush's announcement of the deal with India. As a sole surviving super power, is America taking care of the good of the world? Is it fulfilling its responsibilities as a sole super power? Is it setting the right precedent to other nations, ethically and morally? Is it telling the world, that a country can break international laws at its whims and fancies? America is fighting terrorism, but is it not creating an environment suitable for fighting terrorism straight through its lopsided foreign policy? Is America making the world a best place or a more hazardous place to live in?

Every human being on the planet has a right to be free from poverty and fear... Especially the fear of nuclear weapons. Can the recourses allocated towards creating a nuclear arsenal be diverted and used to generate best facilities for condition care, security and instruction in addition to the providing the basic amenities and necessities that facilitate normal, dignified human life for everyone?

I am of the firm and unshakeable reliance that every human being has the right to a nuclear free existence and in asserting the same we can safely affirm that we have chosen to lead our lives together, as one big human family and friends, and not be foolish enough to die together because of a nuclear holocaust.

Declassified US Nuclear Test Film #31

Declassified US Nuclear Test Film #31 Tube. Duration : 10.23 Mins.

0800031 - SADM Delivery by Parachutist/Swimmer (Special Atomic Demolition Munition) - No Date Given - 9:45 - Black&White (No explosions) - The Special Atomic Demolition Munition (SADM) was a Navy and Marines project that was demonstrated as feasible in the mid-to-late 1960s, but was never used. The project, which involved a small nuclear weapon, was designed to allow one individual to parachute from any type of aircraft carrying the weapon package that would be placed in a harbor or other strategic location that could be accessed from the sea. Another parachutist without a weapon package would follow the first parachutist to provide support as needed. The two-man team would place the weapon package in an acceptable location, set the timer, and swim out into the ocean where they would be retrieved by a submarine or other high-speed water craft. The parachute jumps and the retrieval procedures were practiced extensively. The video shows a man in a wet suit donning his parachute, the weapon package, and a reserve parachute. After he jumps from the aircraft and is nearing the water, he drops the weapon package down on a 17-foot line to lessen the impact of his landing. He then floats the weapon package to the desired location.
